Connect to your server the same way you do in FileZilla. Konsole copies the files and the database and fixes the addresses, so the copy runs on your computer.

Change anything. The live site never notices.

Update the plugins, try a new theme, edit the code. If something breaks, it breaks on your computer, where nobody sees it. Konsole also tells you which plugins have known security problems and which version fixes them.

Show the client first

Send a link to the copy on your computer. The client sees the change before it goes live, and you haven't uploaded anything.
