The short version
- This website sets no cookies and has no advertising trackers. It counts visits with its own statistics tool, which doesn't use cookies either.
- Your websites stay on your computer. Konsole does not send their files or databases to us.
- You use Konsole with a free account. We keep your email and how you sign in, to give you your plan on your computers.
- Payments, and the card the free trial asks for, are handled by Stripe. We never see your card.
This website
konsoleapp.com sets no cookies and runs no advertising scripts. Fonts, pictures and the film are served from our own servers, so visiting the site does not contact third parties.
Statistics, without cookies. To know which pages are read and which campaigns bring visitors, we run Umami, a statistics tool, on our own server at stats.konsoleapp.com (a machine we rent from Aruba in Italy). For each visit it records the page, the site or campaign that sent you (the utm tags in the link), the country and city the connection comes from, the browser, the system and the kind of device, and a few clicks: the download, plan and trial buttons, the questions opened in the FAQ, links to other sites. It sets no cookies, doesn't store your IP address and doesn't follow you to other sites; we only look at the totals. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing what works on our site.
The download link by email. On a phone, the download page offers to email you the link, since Konsole is installed on a computer. Your address goes to our license server and to Brevo only to send that one email, with the campaign tags of your visit in the link. It isn't added to any list or saved: the server remembers it for a day at most, in memory, to avoid sending it twice. Legal basis: your request.
Like every web server, ours records technical logs (IP address, date and time, the page requested and the browser) to keep the site running and secure. They are kept for a short time and not used for anything else. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
Your Konsole account
You sign in to Konsole with an account, on the Free plan too. The account pages live on our license server, license.konsoleapp.com, and the app opens them in your browser: the app never sees your password. For your account we keep:
- your email address, and when you confirmed it;
- your password, only as a one-way hash (scrypt) that can't be turned back into the password, if you chose one;
- if you sign in with Google: the identifier Google gives your Google account, and the email it gives us;
- whether you want product updates by email;
- when you created the account and when you last signed in on the website;
- if you bought or tried Pro: the identifier of your customer account at Stripe, and when you used the trial.
To keep you signed in, the license server sets a cookie with a random token. It lasts until you sign out, 30 days after you last use it, or 180 days at most. Two more cookies: one protects its forms and ends when you close the browser; the other lasts ten minutes while you sign in with Google, to check that Google's answer comes back to you. These cookies are needed for the pages to work, and they are used for nothing else. They belong to license.konsoleapp.com only.
We use this data to let you sign in, give you your plan in the app, and write to you about your account (the link to confirm your email, the link to set a new password). Legal basis: the contract between us.
Signing in with Google. If you choose it, Google tells us your email address, whether it is verified, and an identifier for your Google account. We ask for nothing else: not your name, not your contacts. Google handles its part under its own privacy policy.
An account whose email is never confirmed is deleted after 7 days. You can delete your account yourself, from the account page on license.konsoleapp.com.
Buying Konsole Pro and the free trial
Payments go through Stripe, which sells Konsole Pro to you as the merchant of record (Stripe Managed Payments). Stripe collects your payment and billing details and handles invoices and taxes under its own privacy policy. We never receive your card details.
The free trial is a subscription with free days: Stripe asks for a card at the start and charges it only when the trial ends, unless you cancel before. There is one trial per person, per account and per computer, so we note the email, the account and the computer that used it.
From Stripe we receive your email address, the Stripe identifiers of your customer account, subscription and payment, the plan you bought and its status (on trial, active, renewing, cancelled, refunded or disputed). Legal basis: the contract between us.
Your licenses and your computers
Our license server keeps:
- the account each license belongs to, and the email it was bought with;
- for licenses bought before accounts: the license key, stored only in a hashed form, plus its last characters so you can recognise it;
- the plan, its status and its dates;
- for each computer where you sign in to Konsole: an identifier the app generates for that computer, the computer's name, the version of Konsole and the kind of system it runs on (for example macOS on Apple silicon), when it signed in and when it last checked in;
- a log of what happened to your account and licenses (created, confirmed, signed in, renewed, moved to another computer, cancelled), with the IP address of sign-ins and changes.
We use this data only to give you your plan, count the computers a license allows, limit trials to one per person and per computer, and help you when something goes wrong. We also count which versions of Konsole and which systems are in use, to know what to keep supporting; those counts never name anyone. Legal basis: the contract between us, and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and in knowing which versions to support.
A computer stays signed in until you sign out, remove it from your account page, or it doesn't check in for 90 days. IP addresses in the log are erased after one year.
The server runs on a machine we rent from Aruba in Italy. Its database is copied every 6 hours. The copies stay on that machine for up to 14 days, and on our own computer in Italy, whose disk is encrypted, for up to 90 days. We keep your account for as long as it exists. When you delete it, your sign-ins and computers go with it; the licenses you paid for stay, with the email they were bought with, because Stripe and our accounting refer to them. Ask us and we delete those too, keeping only what the law requires. Deleted data disappears from the copies as they expire.
Emails
Emails about your account and your licenses (the link to confirm your email, the link to set a new password, a note when someone tries to sign up with an address that already has an account, license keys for purchases made before accounts, and the download link you ask for on a phone) are sent through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which receives your email address and the content of those messages for that purpose only.
We send product updates only if you asked for them, with the box when you sign up or on your account page. Then your email address is on our updates list at Brevo, used only to send them. Untick the box, or use the unsubscribe link in any update, and you're off the list.
The Konsole app
Konsole runs on your computer, and so do your sites, their files and their databases. The connections you save to your servers stay on your computer too. The app contacts other services only for these jobs:
- Your account and license, with our license server: when you sign in, the computer's name and identifier; then about once a day, a sign-in token the app keeps on your computer, the computer's identifier, the version of Konsole and the kind of system (for example Windows on x64).
- Security warnings, with WPVulnerability (wpvulnerability.net): the names and versions of the WordPress plugins and themes you use and the WordPress version. Nothing else about your site.
- Live Link, only while you have it turned on: visitors reach the site on your computer through a Cloudflare tunnel, so that traffic passes through Cloudflare.
- The AI assistant, only if you use it: your messages and the information the assistant reads to answer them go to the AI provider you chose, under your own account with that provider.
- Your servers, when you bring a site home or send changes back.
Your rights
You can ask to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, and receive a copy of it. You can delete your account yourself from its page; for anything else, write to support@konsoleapp.com and we will answer within a month. You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Changes
If what Konsole does with your data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top tells you when.
